The playbook
The run starts read-only: the recon probes decide what happens next. The steps that follow are adapted to the distribution and state found — a real machine is rarely clean.
- 01recondistro, version, codename and package manager (apt or dnf)
- 02reconDocker already installed? daemon version
- 03recondaemon active?
- 04reconconflicting packages (distro docker.io, podman-docker, containerd, runc)
- 05reconofficial Docker repository already configured?
- 06reconexisting routes overlapping Docker default networks (172.17-31.x, 192.168.x) — may cut access
- 07reconexisting daemon.json (to preserve)
- 08reconfree disk space for /var/lib/docker (>= 10 GB recommended)
- 09actAdd the official Docker repositoryverify
- 10actInstall Docker Engine + Composeverify
- 11actNon-overlapping Docker networks (only if recon found a conflict)verify
- 12actEnable the daemonverify
- 13actVerify with hello-worldverify
- 14actAdd the user to the docker group (only if a user is provided)verify

What it verifies
Each step ships its own check. The run only moves on when the check passes, so what the recipe reports as done is what is actually on the server.

Guardrails
Non-negotiable instructions the run must respect, whatever it finds on the server.
Docker already installed and active (even from the distro package) → verify and skip, do not replace it. Never `curl | sh`. Do not overwrite an existing /etc/docker/daemon.json: merge after a backup. If a default Docker network overlaps an existing route, configure address-pools BEFORE the first start, or the server may lose network access. Docker changes iptables (FORWARD policy to DROP) and published ports bypass ufw: say so. The docker group is root-equivalent — remind the user, and that a re-login is needed for the change to apply.

How a recipe runs in Servor
Servor is zero-knowledge: the platform cannot execute anything on its own. When you launch this recipe, a run reads the reconnaissance, plans the steps and asks for your approval. Each approved command is signed by your browser — with a key the server never sees — then relayed verbatim to the agent, which verifies the signature locally before executing.
search by intent — type “firewall”, get ufw
- 01Read-only reconnaissance before any change
- 02Every command signed by your browser, approved by you
- 03Each step verified before the run moves on, every run kept in the history

- 01Docker ComposeDocker Compose plugin (docker compose), installed and verified.
- 02PodmanPodman (daemonless containers, rootless capable), verified.
- 03PortainerPortainer CE (LTS) Docker management web UI, admin preconfigured.
- 04k3s (lightweight Kubernetes)Single-node k3s cluster. Destructive: configures networking and a container runtime.
