The playbook
The run starts read-only: the recon probes decide what happens next. The steps that follow are adapted to the distribution and state found — a real machine is rarely clean.
- 01recondistro, version and package manager (apt or dnf)
- 02reconJava already present? which major (compared with the one the MC version requires)?
- 03recondoes the dedicated minecraft user already exist?
- 04recondoes a server already exist (server.jar, world/, server.properties, active service)? never overwrite a world
- 05reconis the server port free?
- 06reconavailable RAM ≥ requested RAM + 512 MB for the system? free disk ≥ 2 GB
- 07reconactive firewall (ufw or firewalld)? a port is only opened if one is active
- 08actInstall curl and jqverify
- 09actFind the required Java versionverify
- 10actInstall Java (headless JRE of the required major)verify
- 11actCreate the dedicated minecraft user and /opt/minecraftverify
- 12actDownload the server (${flavor} ${mc_version})verify
- 13actAccept the Minecraft EULAverify
- 14actConfigure server.properties (port, players, difficulty)verify
- 15actminecraft systemd service + startupverify
- 16actOpen ${port}/tcp (only if a firewall is active)verify
- 17actThe server is listeningverify

What it verifies
Each step ships its own check. The run only moves on when the check passes, so what the recipe reports as done is what is actually on the server.

Guardrails
Non-negotiable instructions the run must respect, whatever it finds on the server.
The server runs as the minecraft user, never root. Java = the major the version requires (Mojang manifest), not another one. An existing world in /opt/minecraft is never overwritten: reuse it. The requested RAM must leave ≥ 512 MB to the system, otherwise lower it and say so. Only open the game port, and only if a firewall is active.

How a recipe runs in Servor
Servor is zero-knowledge: the platform cannot execute anything on its own. When you launch this recipe, a run reads the reconnaissance, plans the steps and asks for your approval. Each approved command is signed by your browser — with a key the server never sees — then relayed verbatim to the agent, which verifies the signature locally before executing.
search by intent — type “firewall”, get ufw
- 01Read-only reconnaissance before any change
- 02Every command signed by your browser, approved by you
- 03Each step verified before the run moves on, every run kept in the history
