The playbook

The run starts read-only: the recon probes decide what happens next. The steps that follow are adapted to the distribution and state found — a real machine is rarely clean.

  1. 01recondistro and version: apt (Debian/Ubuntu) or dnf (RHEL/Fedora/Rocky/Alma)?
  2. 02reconDocker Engine + compose plugin present? (otherwise the docker step installs them)
  3. 03reconNginx Proxy Manager already deployed (/opt/npm, compose.yaml or docker-compose.yml)?
  4. 04reconis port 80 already taken (by which process)?
  5. 05reconis port 443 already taken (by which process)?
  6. 06reconis port 81 already taken (by which process)? (admin UI, bound to 127.0.0.1)

What it verifies

Each step ships its own check. The run only moves on when the check passes, so what the recipe reports as done is what is actually on the server.

  1. 01Install Docker Engine (only if missing)Verified bydocker compose version && systemctl is-active docker
  2. 02Write /opt/npm/compose.yamlVerified bydocker compose -f /opt/npm/compose.yaml config -q && echo ok
  3. 03StartVerified bydocker compose -f /opt/npm/compose.yaml ps --status running -q | wc -l
  4. 04Open 80/443 (only if a firewall is active)Verified byufw status 2>/dev/null | grep -E "^(80|443)/tcp"; firewall-cmd --list-services 2>/dev/null; true
  5. 05The admin UI respondsVerified bycurl -s -o /dev/null -w '%{http_code}' http://127.0.0.1:81/

Guardrails

Non-negotiable instructions the run must respect, whatever it finds on the server.

Admin port 81 stays bound to 127.0.0.1: access through an SSH tunnel (ssh -L 81:127.0.0.1:81). On first access the wizard creates the admin account; on versions < 2.13 the default credentials (admin@example.com / changeme) must be changed immediately. Do not stop any service already holding 80/443.

How a recipe runs in Servor

Servor is zero-knowledge: the platform cannot execute anything on its own. When you launch this recipe, a run reads the reconnaissance, plans the steps and asks for your approval. Each approved command is signed by your browser — with a key the server never sees — then relayed verbatim to the agent, which verifies the signature locally before executing.

  • 01Read-only reconnaissance before any change
  • 02Every command signed by your browser, approved by you
  • 03Each step verified before the run moves on, every run kept in the history
